As part of its OpenEAI Project, the OpenEAI Software Foundation has begun releasing new open source Web services that enable the secure exchange of student data between student applications systems and applications on the Web. The first release of the Academic History Web Service in collaboration with AcademyOne is intended to give students access to their data. Colleges and universities implementing the service will be able to allow authenticated students to import their complete academic history.
Perhaps one of the best examples of a successful school/vendor partnership is the case of the University of Illinois, where an ordinary ERP implementation turned into a groundbreaking partnership with SunGard SCT (www.sungardsct.com). The alliance began back in 2000, when the 68,000-student public university embarked on a project to replace more than 160 of its core administrative systems more contemporary set of applications from SunGard SCT.
The original website that was developed with HTTPD and the first Mosaic browser is long gone, but the AIEP is still going strong as the Illinois in Vienna Programs with many opportunities to study abroad and learn about Vienna with virtual programs.
